The Belgian Energy Market

The energy market in Belgium was gradually opened up to competition from 2001 onwards. Today, the customer is completely free to choose their energy supplier. Management of the transmission and distribution networks, however, is regulated. The federal energy regulator is CREG. Certain specific areas of jurisdiction lie with the three regional regulators: BRUGEL, CWaPE and VREG.
